On-Device AI Assist, without uploading a thing
Draft, summarize, explain-clause and Q&A powered by Chrome's built-in AI โ email and document content never leaves the browser.
For confidentiality-bound professionals, the convenience of cloud AI copilots can be a double-edged sword. While these powerful tools can provide valuable assistance with complex documents, the need for secure handling of sensitive information often renders them unsuitable. The problem is that cloud-based AI services require uploading your document to a server, which poses significant risks to confidentiality and compliance. This is particularly problematic for regulated files, where even an unassuming transmission can have serious consequences.
That's why we're excited about the emergence of on-device AI solutions like Secretary Bird, a browser extension that analyzes documents 100% on-device. By leveraging Chrome's built-in capabilities, Secretary Bird provides plain-English help with every answer grounded to a source passage, all without transmitting your document anywhere. This means you can tap into the power of AI without compromising confidentiality, giving you the confidence to rely on these tools for even the most sensitive work.
How On-Device AI Assist works
Secretary Bird's On-Device AI Assist uses advanced natural language processing (NLP) algorithms to analyze documents without transmitting any data over the internet. When you enable this feature, our proprietary technology works 100% on-device, analyzing the content of your document and providing a range of useful insights. One of these features is an abstractive summary, which distills the main points of the document into a concise and readable summary. This summary is generated based on the entire text, but the original passage remains intact, so you can always refer back to it for context.
The On-Device AI Assist also offers Q&A functionality, allowing you to ask specific questions about your document and receive answers. These answers are sourced directly from the original text, with the relevant passages linked or labeled as "unverified" (where applicable). Additionally, our system will provide explain-clauses in plain English, breaking down complex concepts into easy-to-understand language. Finally, AI redaction suggestions are available to help you anonymize sensitive information without compromising the integrity of the document. It's worth noting that all deterministic parts of these results are generated on-device and cannot hallucinate or generate answers based on external knowledge not present in the original text.
The test that matters: open your browser's network inspector while it analyzes a document. If any request carries document content, it isn't on-device. Architectural privacy is verifiable; policy privacy is not.
