Practical QA Series

Test cases for the things that actually break

Four playbooks for the parts of a product where a defect costs money rather than embarrassment: payments, authentication, AI features and recurring billing.

Written by someone who has watched them happen, and who has shipped the software they happened to.

Why these four

Most testing advice is general. These are not. Each volume covers one domain where the failure is quiet — the application works, nothing crashes, and the money or the access is wrong.

Volume One — Checkout & Payment

The edge cases that cost real money. A sandbox with 18 armable defects, the 18 checks that gate a release, and 96 more behind them.

See the kit

Volume Two — Authentication & Identity

Where the application works perfectly, including for the attacker. A sandbox with 18 armable defects, the 18 checks that gate a release, and 75 more behind them.

Volume Three — LLM & AI Features

How to test a system that answers differently every time. A sandbox with 18 armable defects, the 18 checks that gate a release, and 77 more behind them.

Volume Four — Subscription & Recurring Billing

Defects that arrive every month until somebody notices. A sandbox with 18 armable defects, the 18 checks that gate a release, and 81 more behind them.

What is in a kit

1Practice sandbox — 18 defects you can arm one at a time
2The 18 checks that gate a release
3Playbook — the reasoning, not just the list
4Case bank and client sign-off sheet

The sandbox is the part nobody else sells

Every kit includes a small application with eighteen defects planted in it, each of which can be switched on and off individually. You run a case, watch it fail, disarm the defect, and run the same case again.

That second run is the part almost nobody does, and it is the point. Most testers have seen plenty of software fail. Very few have deliberately observed what a genuine pass looks like for a specific control — which is exactly why junior testers report defects that are not there.

Start with a free one

Each volume has a free 45-minute smoke test: the smallest set of checks whose passing gives you enough confidence to ship. Genuinely useful on its own, and yours without buying anything.

Who writes this

Mohammad Ashik Elahi — eight years testing software other people built, in healthcare, international remote delivery, and as Lead QA Engineer on high-traffic products. Since then, founder of Hakeemify, building and shipping six live software products. Guest lecturer in Software Testing at the Institute of Information Technology, University of Dhaka.

The cases in these playbooks are not a survey of what could go wrong. They are the things that went wrong, to somebody, usually expensively.
