Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 13, 2026

Watchbird is built local-first. Your watched pages, snapshots, change history, and AI analysis never leave your device. There is no Watchbird account and no Watchbird server that receives your browsing data.

What Watchbird stores, and where

  • Watches, page snapshots, and change history are stored in your browser's local database (IndexedDB) on your computer only.
  • Settings and your license token (if you purchased Pro) are stored in Chrome's extension storage, which Chrome may sync between your own signed-in browsers.
  • On-device AI: change summaries are produced by Chrome's built-in model running on your machine. No page content is sent to us or to any AI API.

Permissions we request, and why

  • storage — save your watches and settings locally.
  • alarms — schedule periodic checks of your watched pages.
  • notifications — alert you when a watched element changes.
  • activeTab + scripting — inject the element picker only when you click "Watch something on this page". We do not run scripts on pages otherwise.
  • offscreen — parse fetched page HTML in the background (a technical requirement of Manifest V3; nothing is displayed or transmitted).
  • contextMenus — the right-click "Watch this page" shortcut.
  • Per-site access (optional, one site at a time) — when you create a watch, Chrome asks you to allow Watchbird to read that specific site so background checks can fetch it. We never request access to all sites.

Payments and license validation

Pro purchases are processed by our Merchant of Record, Lemon Squeezy, which handles payment details and applicable taxes under its own privacy policy. When you activate a license, the extension sends only your license key to our Cloudflare Worker, which returns a signed token. No browsing data is included.

Analytics

The Watchbird website may use privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics (Plausible/Umami). The extension itself contains no analytics or tracking.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use disclosure

Watchbird's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
