Secretary Bird Privacy Policy

Last updated 2026-07-21

The short version: Secretary Bird analyzes your documents entirely on your own device. Document content is never uploaded, transmitted, or seen by us. There is no server that receives your files, and there are no user accounts.

What Secretary Bird does with your documents

Secretary Bird is a browser extension that reads, analyzes, and redacts documents (PDF, DOCX, text, and web-page content) locally, inside your browser. Parsing, risk flagging, clause and key-term extraction, PII detection and redaction, and summarization all run on your device. Your document content is not sent to us or to any third party. Because nothing is transmitted, there is nothing for us to store, retain, or disclose.

Data stored on your device

Everything Secretary Bird stores stays in your browser's local storage on your device:

  • Settings and preferences — your configuration options.
  • Saved documents — only documents you explicitly choose to save are kept, in your browser's local database (IndexedDB). Nothing is saved automatically. You can delete saved documents at any time from the extension's options page.
  • Your license activation — if you buy Pro, your license key and its verified status are stored locally so the extension can unlock Pro features offline.

Uninstalling the extension removes this local data.

The only network request the extension makes

The extension makes exactly one kind of network request: license validation. When you activate a Pro license, the extension sends your license key (and only your license key) to our licensing server to confirm it is valid. No document content, no personal information, and no browsing activity is included in this request. Free-tier use requires no network requests at all and works fully offline.

Permissions and why they are needed

  • storage — to save your settings, license activation, and any documents you explicitly save, locally on your device.
  • sidePanel — the extension's interface is a side panel shown next to the document.
  • activeTab — to analyze the text of the page you are viewing, only when you explicitly invoke the extension.
  • scripting — used together with activeTab to read the current page's text or selection at the moment you request it. It never runs automatically.
  • contextMenus — to add the "Analyze this page" and "Analyze selection" right-click options.
  • Optional site access — not requested at install. Only if you opt in to one-click analysis does the extension request permission to read pages you analyze. Analysis remains fully on your device either way.

Payments

Pro purchases are processed by our merchant of record, Lemon Squeezy, which handles payment and billing. We do not receive or store your card details. Lemon Squeezy's handling of payment data is governed by their own privacy policy. When you purchase, an email address is used to deliver your license key.

Website analytics

Our website (hakeemify.com) uses privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics to understand aggregate traffic. This applies to the website only — not to the extension, which contains no analytics or tracking of any kind.

Children

Secretary Bird is a professional tool and is not directed at children.
